Dear Author,
First of all, thank you so much for writing! These are some fandoms I've been enjoying most lately, and I can't wait to enjoy them again through your eyes.
In case it helps, I've left a few prompts per fandom (though mostly they are just me rambling about how much I like them), but I'd always rather see the story that inspires you, even if it means disregarding my prompts (or disregarding the characters we matched on entirely). I'm not too picky, and if it's a return to these fascinating worlds, I already know that I'll love it.
March Comes in Like A Lion
Any (Hayashida Takashi, Kawamoto Akari, Kawamoto Hinata, Kiriyama Rei, Nikaidou Harunobu, Shimada Kai, Souya Touji)
1. It's hard to choose amongst such an amazing cast, but I'd say Shimada is my favorite. I'm obsessed with how this utterly unnoticed, unglamorous player has clawed his way to the top with nothing but quiet, steady hard work (NO MATTER HOW BORING THAT MAKES THE POSTERS!). Any story about how he causes rain or how his rustic skills impress the city slickers would be a delight to me. I also love his mentoring relationship with Nikaidou and (in a somewhat different way) Kiriyama.
2. The scene where Kiriyama helps out Souya during the typhoon train stoppage gave me LIFE. The surrealnessĀ ("It's like there's a god quietly following after me."), the Souya reveal, Kiriyama unleashing his mom tendencies... I'd love another story about seeing your idol in a distinctly human context (Nikaidou and Souya? Hayashida and Shimada?), or one character taking care of another. It's astonishing that so many of these shogi players have all these health problems from this profession... a cast ripe for hurt/comfort if I ever saw one!
3. I usually dislike love triangles, but I actually don't mind Kiriyama's current weird attempts to set up both Shimada and Hayashida with Akari. Honestly it's so on-brand for this kid to try to set up his father figure(s) with this woman who's taken him in and been like a mother to him. I'd prefer not to see a fic about them competing with each other, but they each seem like they'd be a sweet match with Akari (OR EACH OTHER? cough), and I love all the characters involved, so I'd enjoy that a lot!
Bonus: Umm what's with canon giving us so much ripe material for AUs? Wings? Nikaidou's Pirates!AU dream? I am so on board for this.
Bonus bonus: I thought I was done but I just can't contain how much I love these characters. Nikaidou's surprising maturity! Hayashida's weirdly intrusive teacher friendship that seems to be exactly what Kiriyama needs! Akari and Hina's love of food! How much Kiriyama has grown since the start of the manga...
The Checquy Files - Daniel O'Malley
Gestalt - I'd also be happy if you included any other characters as well!
1. O'Malley does such a great job with these unusual powers, my favorite of which is of course Gestalt's! Some day-to-day look at what it's like to inhabit 4 different bodies simultaneously would be fascinating, either as an adult or child.
2. The Grafters' technology is super interesting too. I'd enjoy another look at what kinds of medical marvels they can perform. Perhaps some previous attempts from them and Gestalt working together to enhance his abilities, before settling on their creepy plan from book 1? Or perhaps something new they can bring to the table now that they're working with the Checquy?
3. One question I was left with after book 1 was why the new Myfanwy's personality was so different from the old one's. Is this her as a blank slate, and her previous meek self was shaped by baggage from childhood? Or was something else done to make her this way (old self manipulated her own physiology somehow to change herself, even while dying??) I'd love to read a fic exploring this idea somehow! In some ways, she's the opposite of Gestalt (2 personalities, one body).
3 Percent
Any (Joana Coelho, Marcela Alvares, Marco Alvares, Michele Santana)
1. I loved the women in this show. Michele, Marcela, and Joana are just a few who have really mixed moralities and sometimes do things that are, uh, evil, while somehow remaining sympathetic and relatable. One thing that's interesting to me is that Joana initially seems to be such a self-interested, ruthless character, but we come to discover that she's actually incredibly kind and loyal.
2. I'd love to see more fic about the Alvares dynasty. Marco, who's been raised his whole life to believe it's his destiny to pass the Process. Given how difficult and random the Process is, was he really the first Alvares to fail? Did the rest just not come back? Marcela gave up on him so fast, and became bent on getting his son, her grandson, instead, but I'm convinced she still had maternal feelings for him, and that it must have been a tough choice to write him off.
3. More world-building in general would also be amazing! It's weird that children have to grow up in the poverty of the Inland and then pass the test to get to the Offshore. You'd think that such elitist people would prioritize their own offspring (good genes!), but instead they basically outsource all their child-rearing, depending on those who were not good enough to make it through the Process to raise the children that will one day surpass them. And those children then appear on the Offshore one day, fully grown adults, the entire messy concept of childhood conveniently avoided here. You'd think that those who grew up in the Inland (literally 100% everybody) would have sympathy for those still living in those conditions, but the Process is so challenging and so revered that people feel chosen and entitled.
